Cleaned the carb on the Evinrude 25 today. S/N: 322314
Pretty simple, not very dirty. Could tell though that some bumbler had been in there previously. Missing a bowl screw, main jet looks bent. Could not straighten or remove main jet, even though it has slots that look like a screwdriver could fit in. Wouldn't budge so left it alone. Black plastic piece that adjusting screw goes into had the "flag" broken off. Not sure what it does. Substituted the knob from the Johnny. I think it should work, the threaded section looks the same.

Anybody see any problems here? Haven't put carb back on yet, but am hoping for the best. Sure glad got another carb after finding all this.

Once again the fact that you are a novice is evident.----That little tube ( off to the side ) in the nozzle is supposed to be like that.-----It is not " bent " as you assume !!!-----And that is NOT the main jet.----It is called a nozzle.-----Main jet is in the bottom of the float bowl.

Well you were a novice once too R1. I appreciate the advice, but a little less snark would also be appreciated! So why the heck is the nozzle designed this way? Is it supposed to not be removable? Thanks for the reply, it bolsters my confidence that this motor may be good to with just a little more tweaking.

You look at parts and automatically post that you think they are no good / poorly designed.----They built a lot of motors and those 25's are just wonderful !

Good to know, suspected as much. From what I read, it's a detuned 40HP? Is that right? If so, should I throw a carb off a 40 on it?

There you go again making assumpions based on poor information and reading.----It is NOT based on a 40 HP motor.-----And changing a carburetor does not turn a 25 into a 40 HP.-----Good luck with your endeavors !
