I have significant gouging and dings in the hull of my 17' whaler. I patched with evercoat but think a skim coat of some sort really go a long way in helping my process. To do it with evercoat would cost about $60 and I can do it with bondo for $22 or so, any reason not to?

I plan to barrier coat the boat with epoxy before painting.

Re: bondo skim coat?

Bondo body filler is not intended for use on boats. The filler material used in Bondo soaks water. If you are barrier coating with epoxy I suggest you use an epoxy filler. Using non-marine products even under the barrier coat is too much of a risk in my book. After all that work it would be a real bummer to run into problems with it down the road.
