Re: Boating the Upper Chesapeake

Let's see... the Alumacraft it sitting under a tarp. It's bare bones utilitarian, so the extent of the work will be:

1) Uncover
2)Store cover
:D

The new boat is supposed to be launched for shakedown this week. So far, I've

1) Snapped pictures
2) Threw a cover on it (even though it's warm and dry indoors)
:D

I'm really bustin' my hump this Spring, huh? :p

So, how is everyone coming along with their launch preparations?

I'm planning to get mine ready this week (maybe) and next (probably). I don't think there's much for me to do. I plan to:
- Charge and reinstall the battery.
- General cleaning
- Close petcocks and reattach cooling system hoses
- Test run on trailer at home
- Fill cooler
- Go boating!

Damn. Fill cooler. How'd I miss that one?

Hot off the presses: Just hung up with Lou of A to Z Marine (Upper Chesapeake Rec. Boating Member), and we splash the new boat this Wednesday at 10am in Delran, NJ.

:)

- Buff hull - eventually

Repeated for emphasis :p

I pretty much just brought mine home from the storage lot, aired the tires, reinstalled the battery and filled her with gas...went boating.

I have a swim platform and a kicker bracket to mount up at some point. Also some new rod holders.

Well, aren't you Mr. Hilarious! It will be done this year, mark my words! Its on the bottom of the list because i can still use the boat without doing that one. LOL. I should have known that I set myself up for that one :p

How do you plan on getting the new barge home? I've got a place down there on the beach if you need to overnight there in preparation. It's 10-12 minutes from where your boat is, if I recall correctly.

I'm almost ready. So far I've installed the new transducer, sanded and hit the port side with rubbing compound and polishing compound, and done a general clean up. All that I have left to do is hit the foredeck with polishing compound, fill the old antenna hole with Marine Tex, glue the monkey fur back up and install the windlass. This class I'm taking really cuts into my time but I'm hoping to have her in the water the last weekend in April.

ZERO, as in nothing. Been dedicating my life recently to my job. The current project is a real challenge. The pain should be over my the end of April or early May.
Hope the boat is still floating down there! She needs some attention before I can shove off. The Wellcraft is getting a little attention when possible, but not much.

Phil - thats very generous, thanks for the offer! Looking at the weekend of April 21st so far. I will keep everyone updated as we get closer.

Rob - Sorry to hear this. Hope it let's up early enough for you to get some good time in on the bay this summer. "Winter Dream" is still floating and looking just fine. Saw her yesterday afternoon. I try to swing in weekly and always make sure to check on her. Looking forward to some great raft ups this year!

Don't be shy; just let me know. All you need is the address and the code to the keybox!

I feel your pain about the work/boat balance Rob. I'm gonna take this boating season to sure up the work end, and get the money to have a sweet 2013 season.
Assuming of course that the earth does not explode on Dec 21st.

Hi guys,

Couple of questions for you. I used to launch at Perryville Yacht Club, Riverwalk Marina or whatever it's called now. I did some checking a couple of years ago and was told the place closed down. Is it closed or open? I used to launch for $5, it was great!

Also, considering I am going to launch from Anchor marine now, how do I get around Carpenter Point to get to the sand bar at the flats?

Thanks for the help.

mciaio - go to post #1332 in this thread for ways to navigate around the sandbar. If you're going east-west across the Northeast river at Carpenter's point you need to be very aware of the tide and your draft.

I'll PM you about other resources.

I bought my sailboat from the old perryville ychat club 2 years ago. It is still an operating marina. It just has a new name. New owner. The marina owner owned the boat i bought, since we took over ownership when it was abandoned. He said he owned 9 boats at the time. must be nice...
That is a nice ramp, not too steep.

Do you have more info? I would like to still launch there. The ramp is OK, not concrete and shallow, but it does get the job done and it's cheap!

I started my boat's engine today for the first time since October. It fired right up (after I remembered to connect the kill switch lanyard).

A light cleaning and I'll be ready for Sunday's Spring Splash!
