I guess you didn't learn very well since you're still alive. :)

The instructor shows us the basic's. If someone would have electrocuted themselves then it's alot of paper work for the instructor to fill out..lol

Spring Splash

Spring Splash

The Upper Chesapeake boaters are planning a Spring Splash. Dunk your tub for the first time this year on Sunday, April 15 in the Upper Chesapeake Bay. We're tentatively planning to meet somewhere on the bay at about noon, weather permitting.

There's a discussion about this going on at the "Upper Chesapeake Recreational Boaters" group on Face Book.

Hmmm.... tax day!
I'll put it on the calendar.

FWIW, Skargo's antics motivated me to (finally) open a FB account.

We are doing Triton and looking forward to it, your right channel is fine and I have a slip out front in the deep water I draft 3'6" hopefully shouldn't be a problem, with fuel prices we'll be operating at trawler speeds anyhow! enjoy the journey

EXCELLENT!
Looking forward to greeting you upon arrival.
So....how did you get to top of the "waiting list" so fast?
BTW- Pier 5 isn't NEARLY as good as Pier 6. Just thought you should know.:p:p:p:p
Seriously, welcome to the marina. See you soon!

Thanks, I am really excited!! I stopped by Friday on my way home from work to take a look at it. It is the 10th slip out on the left side of the Pier. 36' slip so the boat should fit in really nicely.

I have no idea how I made it in this year, I really thought the fastest would be next year! Although when I was put on the list, Mike said that he thought it was a good possibility that I would get in this year. I guess there is enough changeover in the 30' + slips. Maybe some of the people on the list either didn't want the slip anymore or their boat didn't fit into it? Either way, I am happy to have it! It will be so much easier than using the island!!

I asked him if there were any available on Pier 6 as I have 2 friends over there. He checked and said that there were not any right now. I plan to ask if there is someway that I can be put on a list to move to a Pier 6 slip if one becomes available. Either way, thats what the dingy or kayak is for. ;)

No definite plans on the launch date yet. Making some progress on the boat though and hope to have it in Tydings by May if all goes well and the weather agrees. I will keep everyone update and add some more pics soon.

I was at Tydings today during extra low tide and snapped a few pics of the ramp and back channel.
Use them as reference if/when you want to venture out there.
When the tide is up it's all submerged.
If you stay in the channel there's plenty of water- even at low tide.
The last shot is straight off the back of Pier 6's T-head.

Oh, I also heard they're almost done with the dredging. The entrance channel is at least 5' MLW and they scooped all the fairways, too.

Brandon- I sent you a PM.

Great pics Rob, thanks for sharing! Wow, that is really low water, was "Winter Dream" okay or did you have to adjust your lines at all?

Thats awesome news! Just in time for some new boats to arrive this spring! I have stopped by a few times but its always late in the day and no one is in the pilot house to ask about it. Thanks for the update.

Brandon- I sent you a PM.

Thanks Rob!! I sent you one back. I appreciate all of your knowledge of the area, its great to know that you are 1 pier away :) Remember, if you ever need anything, I am only a phone call away.

There must have been a northerly wind. My dad has always said sometimes the water will be so low that the flats are just mud.

Thanks Rob,
That should help next time I go through there coming from plum point. How often do you see the tide that low? I only go there at high tide. At low tide I will run back to the channel south of sand island.

Re: Boating the Upper Chesapeake

you could have almost walked on the side of the channel, and drove sticks into the ground to mark the back channel.

I remember a few years ago there were 5 ft tall trees growing on the egde of the back channel. They kinda marked where you had to go.

(Just make sure your on the right side of the tree)

Re: Boating the Upper Chesapeake

I like to visit during published high or low tide for just that reason, Brandon.
Even with that low tide "Winter Dream" was floating and the lines didn't need any tweaking. However, I energized the de-icer hanging below the hull for a few seconds and made chocolate milk! It must have been half- buried.
Bill- that was probably the lowest I've seen.
Kyle- yeah, the day before had a strong wind from the north. And yes I saw the trees- I considered hangin' a few Xmas ornaments from 'em.:p They weren't growing, just a creative person marking the edges.
