Hey, Im a new member here and i have a 1978 Baja. The boat is awesome and i love the looks of it. But theres this one boat that i have always loved and have always wanted. Now that i am able to upgrade a little i sold my baja and looking into buying my dream boat. There is a couple of boats that im looking at and it is a Liberator 201 with a 351W. Im a ford guy and i have been looking for a boat with a ford motor. This boat from pictures is beautiful. But if this one sells on me im looking into another Liberator with the 454. Im a little leery about the MPG of it. So heres a couple of questions, what is the mpg of that 454? and also is that motor faster than the 351? Thanks for your help

Re: Boat Upgrade

AAhhhhh -- with 103 more cubic inches of displacement the 454 will definitely be faster than a 351. Why? It can twist more prop pitch. Big motors take more fuel than small motors on a per hour basis. But big engines can push a boat faster at any RPM. Therefore a small engine working hard may not be as economical as a big one that's loafing.
