So a while back i had posted some questions in which i tried to post pics but couldn't. The keel of my boat was badly scraped. I took the boat in to the local marina for repair. A thousand plus tax later the keel was repaired. Now the question.... they used a product called evercoat. I believe it was some kind of fiberglass based waterproof bondo. Is this what would typically used for this type of repair? Thanks guys. chris

Re: Boat repair

Depends on the damage. It can be used for some damage. Other damage requires resin and glass. Hard to tell without pics.

Re: Boat repair

Evercoat is a brand name, not a specific product, they make a range of products. Some would be correct for all, or a portion of the repair depending on how much damage was done.

No such thing as waterproof Bondo.

Typically yes .. methods using a fast cure putty is used in all kinds of repairs.

Is it a correct repair ? Um.. No its not. ( If thats what your asking .. ).

Is this kind of material is used to repair non structural fills .. Yup .. all the time ( Its not correct though ).

Surface Fairing can be done in small amounts .. but Why ? Why not just put some glass filler in the repair when thats what came out of it .. Speed is what it boils down to mate .. SPEED in the repair and not much else.

All of my Below waterline repairs are done in Solid Glass .. just like OEM .. Glass and Gel ..

Some might think differently .. thats ok with me ;) ..

YD.
