I get that. It didn't sound any different than it did with the other prop. I didn't run it for that long. Definitely didn't sound like it was lugging or anything. If the weather was better I was going to switch back to the old one. Have to save it until next time. Fuel pump quit on me.

yeah I’m thinking about rebuilding it back to the pump on the motor. Po installed an electric pump instead of fixing it the right way. So here I am today stuck on the water with no pump. Motor is not perfect but does run good. Checked the compression yesterday it was 130 and 135. So just need to fine tune it a bit and it will run great. While I look for a bigger motor. Going to order a prop on amazon 10 7/8 x 11p. Think that will be a better fit.

I would look your motor up online and see what the recommended prop is instead of guessing at it and ordering props. I would think, even at only 40hp, you should get low 20s on speed once you get the right prop.

Ndheep, what year is that motor? Is there an ID tag or number on it?

2 completely different engines, so that is an Apples to Oranges Comparison.
Crank vs Prop Rated
2 cylinder vs 4 cylinder
33.3cu. in vs 44cu. in.
So his 60 hp is only 33 cu in ? No matter how many cylinders it is still rated at 60 hp...

The 10.38 x 13p was too much pitch. I think Jimmbo is right 10 or 11 pitch. Trying to find a place online to see a chart or something of a recommended pitch but haven’t found one yet

I think it is a motor or trim issue. My 1989 Johnson Tracker 40hp takes a 12x17p.

So his 60 hp is only 33 cu in ? No matter how many cylinders it is still rated at 60 hp...
The OP had a 2 cylinder 40hp which was a 33.3 inch block
You posted that you had a 92 40hp which would be a 4 cylinder 44 inch block

We have a SS 16, not sure how the hull compares to a Holiday, but, 75 hp prop IMO about the best match, I've been in SS16's w/70 power head (OMC) and that was under powered. have also been in a 16 fishing version with the old 4 cyl 50 merc, w/2 that is also way under powered. We have the older 850 merc 4 cyl, w/T+T this is 85 powerhead, and was reduced to 75 when the prop ratings were used. The prop is a 13" x 19 p. - Oh it's 66 CI - more displacement is good.

So fixed fuel pump. Kept it electric until I can order the parts. But after I got it running again I found out the timing was way off. I adjusted it at idle to about 6 degrees. It was adjusted all the way out. So it idles better and runs out better taking it to the lake to see how it does.

There is no Idle Timing Spec, so I suspect you are going to have to do a Complete Link and Sync.

Probably. It is hard to figure out the manual I downloaded so I might take it in and have them fix it

First thing when it comes to tuning a 2 Stroke outboard, forget most of what you know about tuning a 4 Stroke Car/Truck engine.
Finding a Shop to work on an older engine is like trying to drill teeth without Anesthetic

Hopefully you mean today. Lol. I can't wait to hear how it does.

well I couldn’t get it to start on the lake started and ran fine before I left might just have to be a winter project
