Boat Cover

I have a 1989 Sea Nymph with a 90 horse motor and a Minnecota quest trolling motor. I will be storing it at the dock during the season and I'm not sure about what do use as a cover for the boat. For security purposes I guess covering the trolling motor is more important than than the outboard. I do want it to be fairly easy to put on and takeoff while it's at the dock rather rather than on the trailer. Can I buy a cover online that will cover the trolling motor or do I really need to get these custom-made?

Custom made is the only choice if you want the cover to fit properly and keep out the rain. Expensive, yes but well worth it in the long run. Aftermarket covers don't last very long where my custom covers have lasted at least 10 years and many far longer.

Assuming the trolling motor is easily removed ,I would take it home for the season.Better for the motor and better for your piece of mind.Shrinkwrap is the absolute best and carefully removed at end of season can easily be reused.Charlie

My uncle's Sylvan is much like yours - bow mount trolling motor and 75HP Yammie out back. He has a custom vinyl snap on cover that he uses when docked which covers the trolling motor. The snaps attach to studs on the side of the hull. Cost a pretty penny but it works.

My Chap has a bow mount trolling motor as well. I use the bow and cockpit covers when docked, trolling motor left out in the open. My thought process is if they want it bad enough, it'll be gone.

If you have a quick release mount for your trolling motor and you think it might be an attraction to theives, remove it and lay it on the floor of you boat. Mine can be removed in less than two minutes, by doing this, a cover can be made for less money. Every added feature on a cover makes the cost go up. If your going to put the cover on at the dock in the water, a custom cover will be much easier and faster ! Aftermarket covers can be a real pain in the a$$ to install and remove on the water. Have had both over the years and for ease of use, longer lasting, and overall better fit and performance, bite the bullet and have a custom cover made. You might also consider looking for guys that do auto interiors as many do boat covers on the side at better prices. We all realize when the word " boat" is included in our projects, it only adds to the cost.....
