Tried to run motor on muffs. When I started it I had the throttle too high and motor reved real high and I then shut it off, water was running. I tried to start it again and I did not pee. Could I have ruined it? Or perhaps it was going out anyway, not sure how old it was.

Another thing does it change pretty much the same way a 48 spl changes? I have a oem manual for the '89 48 hp but didn't get one for my '81 70hp yet.

Thanks
Beck

That didn't harm the pump. It comes apart much like the 48.

try putting it in a container, the muffs sometimes do not get a good seal around the intake

Thanks for the reply,

Few other ?'s

When changing the pump is there any sealent involved that I should get ahead of time? Lube for the impella, silicone spray?
Should I neversieze the ss bolts when putting it together or perhaps some locktight?

Also engine is a '81 70hp Johnson which sparkplug and at what gap?

Thanks again,
Beck

I lube it with most any kind of liquid soap. Blue loctite on the screws is a good idea including the ones that hold the gearcase on. I believe that uses L77JC4 gapped at .040. QL77JC4 if you have any electronics to reduce noise.
