Tap from at least two sides and walk it out. Every trailer I've done took some good hard hits to start the seals.

Thanks guys!! Hey Upinsmoke--I did have in mind something similar to your idea, but did not know if it was ok to tap something against the rear bearing. I will give it a shot again.

Works fine -- just make sure you are hitting the bearing and not the race. A dead-blow hammer works best for this but a regular one works too.
