Bought a boat a couple weeks ago, its a 17 yr old key west 15. First boat, so I went into it knowing I was somewhat ignorant. But the bottom of the boat was heavily stained. After several hours of crawling around using starbrite and marykate, Ive managed to restore the hull to a nice bright white again. However, in removing the staining, it is evident there is some bubbling of the gelcoat on the bottom. Putting 2 and 2 together, Im pretty sure this boat sat in the lake water A LOT!
That said, from my novice perspective, the bubbling is minor. There are a fair number of them, but they are all very small and you can barely, if at all, feel them with the finger. At the right angle though you can see them visually.
The boat from now on will be sitting on trailer when not in use. I understand the boat is old and inexpensive and I realize the implications of this....Im not looking for a perect boat...would have dropped the money for a new one if I wanted that bad enough.
That said, from what I am describing, is this something that should concern me? Will they get worse over time now that the boat will never sit in the water long term?
Tried to take pics, but camera barely pics them up.
