Bleeding Oil Injection Yamaha 60tlrc

BLUF: How do I bleed the oil injection system on my Yamaha 60tlrc 2 stroke?

I was planning to go fishing and was topping off my oil injection system. I grabbed the Yamalube and started to pour when I realized it was the gear case oil so much heavier. It wasn’t much but I thought it best to dump the oil reservoir. I did this by pulling the oil lever sensor and dumping. Also disconnected a hose from the bottom and let it drain. Got most of the oil out. Figure any residue won’t hurt anything.

This ended up being a good thing as I discovered the throttle linkage clip was split. Temporarily used a zip tie to hold it together and put everything back together.

The engine will crank but won’t fire. Is there a reason something that could cause this? Flooding maybe?

During the troubleshooting I realized I need to bleed the system, my service manual says to do this but doesn’t provide instructions on how? Online tutorials say there is a screw but my oil injection pump doesn’t have a bleed screw on the side. There are two screws on top for the bracket that the return hose is connected to. Do I just unhook the return hose. Google AI says to disconnect the linkage, run the engine off a reserve tank, and max out the oil pump. Unfortunately, the links they provide don’t reflect that direction. Is this correct for a pump with no bleeder screws.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Yes, I’ve seen that video but my pump doesn’t have a bleed screw. That one is older than mine. Plus my oil tank blocks access to the pump so I’m guessing bleeding might be accomplished some other way.

The oil system does not need to be bled if all you did was remove and reinstall the oil tank. There will be oil in the line from the tank to the oil pump. Once you refill the tank any air that is in the oil line will vent itself into the oil tank.

did anything say to mix up some 50 to1 gas and run the motor on that.?
mark the oil level in the oil tank to make sure it goes down so you know it is pumping.
you should notice when it has double oil from the smoking

Well, the hose on the bottom of the tank that feeds to the pump did come off. But I’m thinking that bleeding for this engine may mean to just run the motor on an external pre-mix and let the air run back through from the return line. Thank you.

did you check for spark?
compression, spark and spark timing are the easy things to test , if all of those are good the it would be the fuel to air ratio ,but that is not as easy to check

The hose from the tank to the oil pump is self bleeding. Bleeding is to purge air in the hoses from the pump to the carburetors.

Gotcha, so would assume that running the motor with a separate 50:1 tank would bleed the system or should I pull each of the hoses to the carb similar to the procedure used to test oil output.

Thanks for the help everyone.

So, I set the oil injection according to the service manual (1mm from wide open) but had to eye it as there is no way to really measure it. The starting issue was flooding but it cleared quickly this time. Last time it was severely flooded. I currently have it idling around 1500 rpm to see if it uses any oil. It’s running like it has more oil. This is the only way I can see bleeding the lines safely. There is no way to pull any oil lines from the carb as they are buried under the oil tank.
