Thanks guys!

For stain I am using a red mahogany filler stain ( to even out the various shades of mahogany) followed by Minwax mahogany stain to add some brown.
For varnish I use traditional oil base varnishes, ( no polyurethanes).

OK, ..... so at about 10? its a bit cold for getting much done outside. Things have moved to the basement for some finish work.

The center opening portion of the windshield is moving along well for finishing.

From another thread I posted on building the windshield, here is the center window blanked out.

I'm really impressed with your carpentry skills, Ned. Everything looks like master cabinet maker level finish.

Thanks! ...... & I like that WOG!
I wouldn't say everything is 'show' quality. After all, she was a semi-production built boat, I think things are generally to at least that level or a bit above. And she is ours, so I am my own customer. it's not like I am working to someone else's requirements or expectations, ... which is nice.

With the windshield all dry fitted, it came back off to have the glass fitted and a final sanding & some stain and varnish.

Here the glass is set in

Here the laminated top rail is bedded in and screwed on for good.

Hahaha,... Lol. Yep, not much glass here, actually less than a gallon of epoxy in the whole boat (6 oz cloth on both the foredeck (sub-deck) and the trunk cabin top, both set in epoxy).
I much prefer cedar, oak and teak sawdust and sharp chisels to angle grinders and fiberglass dust. That's just me I guess. :D

It looks like I'm getting a bit behind here....

I realized I didn?t put up any pictures of the windshield during the ?dry fitting? to make sure it all went together properly. In reality there was a good bit of fidgety trimming and fitting to get it to conform to the camber of the cabin top (which after almost 60 years is not quite perfect).

So here it is.

Then it was time to take it all back off and finish stripping the paint off the cockpit coaming then stain and varnish it.

ry%3D400

and some stain

ry%3D400

ry%3D400

and the second coat of stain going on

Next I decided to pre-finish the inside of the windshield as much as I could before installing it. This made sanding and varnishing much easier. (It will get at least one final coat after everything is done.)

A crappy picture, but this is one of the side windows getting stained.

Then it was time for the final installation. The curved handrail will be stained and varnished afterwards. There are that many screws with plugs over the heads that it would not be possible to pre-finish it.

It's finally starting to look like it is supposed to.
