Better solution for this "seat"

See the attached pictures. This thing really sucks. It's way too low to actually sit on while piloting, it's difficult to get things in there for storage, it's really difficult to clean, etc.

This is on a 19ft Skiff, so I don't have a ton of room to work with. I'm thinking maybe a small leaning post would be good. It may be difficult to find one that isn't too big.

If anyone has experience with setups on boats this size and style pictures or advice would be awesome!

1.If it is stout just bolt a seat on it with whatever size spacer you require.
2. Ifin it is flimsy..... stiffen it up... then step 1.

My last boat had a similar setup except it had a door and mounted a pedestal seat to the top

thats just a pedestal. you need to mount a seat to it

Because this is a very small boat, adding a whole seat like that would take up valuable space. I think I'm going to do away with it entirely and go the leaning post route.

After doing some research, it seems that most all leaning posts are designed to be used while in a sitting position. Kind of a confusing name to be honest.

Most boating I do is in >6ft of water, so I need to be standing almost all of the time while piloting to be able to see any hazards or wildlife. My idea is to have something with some cushion or even a bit of a seat that's a foot or two higher than a typical leaning post so I can simply rest back on it to take weight off my feet. Is this something that anyone makes regularly, or am I looking at welding something myself here.
