Re: Best type of grinder and discs

I have been using a 4 1/2" electric angle grinder with thin metal cutting wheels to make cuts and 36 grit flap discs to grind down rough areas and screw heads. That combo has worked satisfactory so far. Can't say it is the best it is just what I had lying around. To smooth out any rough areas I have a 5" dewalt orbital sander (36 grit paper) that I use to clean up rough/sloppy cuts.

I use the 7" grinder with the 24-36 gritt.. It will kick the 4.5" grinder $%$.. The disk last a long time and it will cover twice as much area in the same time..
I also use the 4.5" grinder in the smaller places with the same type disk..
I also have the 6" DA sander and use anywhere from 80 gritt to 320 gritt.. I have a compressor that puts out 10 cfm @ 100psi continuous.. I can ruff and scruff with it and also did the first part of sanding my gel coat with it and all the prep work for the gel coat..

All of the tools have value when used correctly at the right time.. :D

Not really .. grinding is kinda fun for me :) ..

1. full face if overhead grinding
2. Full suit or double suits ( nobody ever said you cant buy a large and an X-large suit )
3. tape off hands ( yes you have to tape the gloves on )
4. Double tape your Suit Crotch ( thats where it splits open ).
5. Triple tape your shoes/socks to the suit ( yes thats where the most itchy stuff comes from )
6. Rag and tape your suit neck ( sometimes the suit will zipper down when you dont know it happened ).
7. You dont pour your baby powder on your arms or legs .. you put it down your suit.
8. Ear muffs ( not Plugs ) with some ear tunes will help you out :).

Electric has Way more power than Air tools. Use Electric when possible ( which is always possible ). Use a right angle drill with those die grinder tips and/or the rolock disks.

Thing about them air tools .. they spit out as much air as they take in. Meaning the air will blow around intended vacuumed out dust to the rest of the progect ( or sometimes others boats ( canvas and such ))

Hope this helps if you read my whole post :) ..

YD.
