best lower unit lube

Just looking to find out what the best lower unit lube for a 115hp johnson outboard would be or if the type really matters.

It matters if it is Hydro-Electric shift. If so, you must use OMC/BRP "Premium Blend". Used to be called "Type C".

As long as the motor is a 1977 or newer, then use the Evinrude HPF-XR gear oil at any dealership. They make a super heavy duty oil called HPF=Pro but it is expensive and not needed for normal recreational use.

Here is a test of different brands of gear oil and how they did if water got into the gearcase
