Re: Best Fishing Line

Myself I may change line four to five time over the summer. I used Stren and have for about 25 years. Every time out I strip 20 yards off the reel before I rig up. Down here on the gulf coasts bays you line take a lot of wear and just to make sure I’ve good to go I have always done the lien strip before I start a fishing day. This is to insure I done have bad spot on the line. I loaded one of my pole with power pro still in the testing stage. So far so good. I‘ve done the big game thing and that stuff is just too stiff. It had a lot of memory too much for me. I tried a few of the others and I always end up stand back in front of the Stren when I’m at the goody store. But that’s just what I like to throw.

Don

I finally tried Ironsilk on my baitcaster over
the weekend. It sure came off the spool great!
Lots of distance, I liked it.

Re: Best Fishing Line

I used stren since it came out back pert near the stone age (orange is still my fav!) and i find it to be sensitive, tough and able to get some hits when nothing else is gettin hits ... naturally, I would chalk it up to my fabulous skills, but, as is the way of the sea, I let the one woman Save the Dolphins parade hold the rod whilst I lit a death stick, and she got hits too, so stren is good stuff in my book

however

I am a technogeek, and when something new comes out and catches my eye, usually if the interest holds for longer than a month, I consider getting it

Inside of three weeks, I find my self at the store, feeling fishing lines - fifty pound test turns out to feel like 12 pound test

later that night on the night bluefishing trip (Adventurer II, wildwood NJ), I could feel the bottom bumping by, followed by the chomp of a smaller blue, and promptly yanked his meal out of his mouth

a few sea robbins come up, so I hook one on ( I was up in the bow, everyone else just LOVES bein in the back!) I feel him swimming around down there, and suddenly feel a frantic tugging, like hes a bat out of hell, and SLAMMMMMMMMM, woo hoooo, up comes a 21 pound slammerrrrrrrrrr, that was way cool

why fifty?

well

ever see a wreck between a hyundai and a Lincoln Navigator?

know that greasy splotch on the Navigators bumper?

same with party boats, the clunky 60 pound mono they winch onto the reels doesnt have a chance against braided synthetics

of course, on private boats or lightly loaded party boats when I can have the bow to myself, I tend to use some 12 pound test for blues and 6 pound test for weakie and flounder

six pound spiderwire feels like thread

you can feel the minnows heart beating

just amazing

however, I want to give this pro stuff a shot

its held my interest for a while now ...
