Re: Best Bait
hey guys next year June count me in as of now... sounds like a good time no matter what what happens! Thanx for the invite! hmmmm ... I'll bring the Shlitz..lol

Well Euro, After looking on the map I found ya. Have to say I'm not familiar with your surrounding lakes and their make-up but, as far as an arial view I'm guessing that the Lindstrom chain is full of depth changes, weed beds and underwater bars and humps but, thems just a hunch. Going on this 'hunch', this time of year I'd concentrate on 8-15' of water on breaks relating to bottom structure. This being said, if fishing alone, use three rods rigged differently... one spinner rig with a #4 colorado blade for more 'thump' (in orange or green) set up with a Jumbo Leech or medium Fat head. Second, would be a Rapala, either a Shad Rap, Tail Dancer or Countdown in silver, gold or perch. Long line straight back roughly 40-60'. Last but, not least, would be a floating rig on a bottom bouncer, Lindy's No-Snag or tied to a three-way with a 8-12" light mono dropper to a bell sinker or such.
I'd start out at around 1.5 gps bouncing the throttle up in incraments to 2.2 gps (maybe faster) while searching for takers. If no takers, drop it down from 1.5 to under 1.0 refering to my first post 'backwards' if you have to or as gonfishn stated 'slow troll'. Depends if your boat is capable of those slower speeds.
If you run into fish either throw a marker out or hit a way point on the gps and then start doing 'hot laps' in the aera. Key in on specifics: speed, turn ratio, which bait. Most of all specifics as to where that bait was, (line out), depth, what side of the boat in relation to the structure (if any that's prodominant including bottom content too like mud, rock, sand, weeds, etc...or changes/transitions in them).

It's a crap shoot on my end here but, if you seek 'em out and keep moving, and are willing to change baits and set-ups you WILL find 'em If you're willing ... and they cooperate
.

Hope this helps at - least in the slightest.
One other tid bit... look at the crappie/perch or others as a bonus and not a hinderance.

Somedays, as you know, seems they've got their mouths welded shut... then change your presentation(s), bait(s). maybe drifting lindy rigs, floating jigs, tipped lead jigs, and the ever so popular slip float are the key to a full cooler. Just never know.

I'm not a local so I'm in the dark as far as the patterns the fish are currently on there.

Just an example: Lake Winnabago here in Wisconsin is one of the best walleye fisheries in the midwest if not country. Things change from season to season and day to day ... but, you can always find 'em if you are willing to move and change tactics ... some guys this time of year still swear by trolling cracks(*edit* ment cranks).. others by spinner rigs and half a crawler... some by anchoring and casting one of the many reefs... others by dead stickin' a slip float then snap jigging on the drift... they all produce. Some better some days than others and they're fighting sheepshead, perch, and whitebass and catfish in the process...

Holy priest!! I've written a book .. pardon that.
