Bent shift fork, or just out of adjustment?

I have a 50 horse Johnson, 1981. it dont want to go into forward gear. I have adjusted the shift cable all the way back and seems like it needs to go another half inch to get it to drop in. Anybody got any sugestions

hss this been happening since the lower unit was off. when did it start? could be worn out cable, stretched.
