Since the weather is changing and another resto/rehab season commencing for many, thought I would open a new thread for Starmada folks to post some before and after pics and chatter what we plan to add to the rigs. Also figure the stark differences of the type pics will provide ideas to current projects and open discussion on details to assist others.

I will fire the first bullet:

1979 SS18 with a 79 Merc 115hp tower of power and EAGLE 20 Trailer(came with 79 Holsclaw Dual)

Need bow mount Humminbird
Need my (2) Berts track trolling setup on back bar
Need a transom mount 24v electric(high thrust)

My before and after shots still look too much alike. Function has changed dramatically. Before, I couldn't go for a boat ride, after I can. Change in looks...not so much. I want to drag a few bushels of blue crabs on board and slay a few sharks before I tear it down for a rebuild. You guys have really done some nice work!

Dozer, that looks like a 4 cyl 90, would you have any pics of you on the water. I think I have a chance at a similare 4 cyl OB and am interested in seeing it on the water. My 1st thought is the motor is a tad heavy...

Thanks...

Ripped out the nappy azz, water sucking, mildew breeding carpet and replaced with Nautolex vinyl. Reused the same 3/4" CCA pressure treated decking.

Before

My before and after was a love of labor. Our little 16? Crosby was just too small for the family and it was leaking pretty badly.

I was searching E bay and found an FG converter. I coated the boat with about 3 gallons of the stuff and all the FG turned to a nice shiny aluminum. It was about 3/16? thick plate and since the boat was too small, I decided to make it larger. I found a really nice aluminum stretcher on sale at Harbor Freight. It took a while to convert the stretcher to work on the V hull, but with some ingenuity I was able to lengthen the boat to 21?. It ended up tearing into sheets but I was able to rivet them together. It made a very strong hull. I even found some Starcraft corner covers and logos at a junkyard.

Painting the boat turned out to be a pita. After coating the bare aluminum with zinc primer I was pretty low on funds. I found a great deal at a local store that sells overstock and closeouts. I found 3 cases of rattle cans that matched and went to town. My son even helped on the interior, he had found some extra green paint in the basement and did a splatter pattern on the interior

Next I had to mod my trailer to fit the new hull. I went searching in my pole barn and found some scrap steel, an extra axle and a few tires. My neighbor helped out and donated the roller set up off a Shorelander he was no longer using.

The interior from the Crosby just didn?t work in the larger boat. . I had some extra plywood lying around and put in a new floor and put some old vinyl over it. I searched C-list and for a little bit of nothing was able to find all the interior parts that would work on my boat. The center console really was a great deal.

Next I looked at the motor; I knew the 50hp just wasn?t going to cut it on the larger hull. I converted the inline 4 to a V 4, and bored it out. I even managed to figure out how to install a VRO unit on the motor. It rates about 90hp now. I found a newer cowling at a local auction house and then gave it a paint job and added some new decals I picked up on line.

I was able to come up with a kicker from a junk boat that I picked up locally.

I sold some of my extra boat stuff lying around and was able to pick up some used controls and a couple of fish finders to try and help me catch some fish.

I was able to use an old tent to make a frame and bought some fabric at a shop that was going out of business; turned out to be a nice bimini top.

It took about a month to make the conversion from the time the little FG couldn?t be used anymore till the family was back on the water with the new Tinny. There was a tremendous amount of research on the web; it drove my better half crazy.

Thanks to all of you at iboats for all your great help with turning me on to aluminum boats.

Re: Before and After Pic Parade

Hey Jim, Sorry it took so long to see this post, been working way to much. The 90 was great on the boat not to heavy at all. I only have one picture of it in the water tied on shore.

Re: Before and After Pic Parade

Mine is also a before and during, yet. I have some new things to fix, some things to add yet, and need to get it on a tandem axle trailer which I have, but need to fix yet. Be nice if I had an inside to work on this stuff. I guess truth be told, I probably will be working on it, adapting it slightly, til I get red of it.
