Yes it has been painfully cold but we survived the 10 darkest weeks of winter Nov 18-Jan 22. Can feel the sun is stronger.

It’s been a long time since we have had a cold winter around here. Thinking back 25 30 years ago it’s wasn’t that unusual. A few times they even had to bring in ice breakers for the ferry to make its trips. I remember a few times where it looked like you could walk to the mainland as Vineyard Sound was completely covered in ice.
I have seen pictures of people ice skating in Vineyard Haven harbor in the 50’s and 60’s.
You know it’s cold when saltwater freezes solid.

Middle Tennessee is pretty icy. Lots of folks to the North and West of me without power.

Dog is super excited to go play in the snow ... but can't figure out why it's completely solid.

It,s been so cold here that even my golden retrievers who are snow lovers did not want to go for a morning walk.
My one lab hates the deep snow. The other one is loving it.
This is like the winters we had when we were kids here in Pennsylvania.

I was stupid and plowed the drive before the precipitation (snow, sleet and freezing rain) ended Sunday night. Left the drive with 1/2-3/4" of snow with a glaze of ice on top.

Even 4WD is having problems getting up the drive.
Not a bag of ice melt to be found in a 50 mile radius.
Above freezing temps not in the forecaster until next week

I hear there is none to be found in my neck of the woods as either. I’m all stocked up for now but next weekend is starting look like a replay of this weekend.

Salt shortage everywhere as of January 1st.

Caused by RFK Jr. and Dr Ozzz.
Said we consume to much salt , so they quit mining if in September.
