went down to the marina yesterday to clear off the pontoon boat cover, Essex,Md.
Hardest part was getting around the boat due to the frozen top layer over the snowpack that sometimes supported me, sometimes didn't. Extremely slow going. First time with a heavy snow and no warm up with this boat.
I may look into shrink wrapping next year.

this place had pallets of salt, if it helps anyone.

was 35 this morning at the house when I left

I was going to try to change my flight to the noon flight to MSP but do to possible frost I stayed on the 6 pm flight. For those of you in the south it is not fun to fly up north in the winter, you sit on the tarmac for sometimes hours waiting for the plane to be deiced. Tampa and Sarasota if they get frost they have to rotate the plane on the tarmac so the sun can melt the frost off.

true that, and it can be up to 2 hours for the sun to do its job, often resulting in you sitting on the tarmac for a while, only to fly to your destination and miss the connecting flight, then sit in ATL for 4 hours to get a flight back home.

No cocktails served while you wait either.

Salt is funny stuff, it only works when the temperature is above 13 degrees F. And you cannot use sand if there is a storm sewer system because It will clog up the sewers. So it is best to crawl back into bed.

I quit using salt. It ate the screws out of my steps and did a number on the stainless bolts holding the handrail. Now I have added metal siding down to the side walk so I don’t want salt eating that. I throw out a little sand if I need to put something on the ice. I got lucky on this last one. I shoveled and swept the steps on the south side 3 times while it was snowing. Once again after it quit. They never got any ice on them. I shoveled a narrow path down the side walk and the radiant heat from the sun had the rest cleared and dry in a day and a half. The ground wasn’t froze when it started so had about an inch of ice under the snow on the sidewalk and where I plowed with the tractor. Temp currently 21 but supposed to hit lower 40s so most of the yard will be clear by the end of the day.

I don’t think I’ll see the ground for a couple weeks at best

Gonna be a while before we see forest floor or grass here. As for salt. Day before the snow I was in hardware store and people were lining up to get taken for 20 pound bags of salt for 29.99. Grocery store in same shopping center had a full skid out front of 50 pound bags for 10.50 Seemed no one knew it was there.

Had to clear an area in the yard for one of my dogs to poop. He wouldn’t do his thing in the deep snow.
