Bearings Help needed.

Hi all.

I have to change the 3 bearings in the transmission on my Evinrude 35hp -1959 cause of water in oil after long-time storage. The problem is that i cant see the numbers clearly on the bearings. Anyone that knows what bearing numbers it is? Not the OMC part number but the bearings standard number.

The part numbers are: 1 roller bearing 0375761, 1 bearing 20X52 and 1 roller type bearing 0376858.

Hope for answers.

Regards,
Fredrik, Sweden

If you take all three to the local bearing supplier they should have no problem matching them up.....

The guy is in Sweden. If I had a unit torn down, I'd look at the bearings and post the numbers. But I don't have one. I'll bet somebody out there does though.

The wheel needs to turn in Sweden too.....im in Australia, we have them everywhere.....im sure Sweden has their share. It may well be what he ends up needing to do if no one has the numbers recorded or feels like tearing their LU down.....probably save him some time too.....take em straight to the "bank" i say.

I dont think the fact that the bearings are inches is any problem here in Sweden, we have good availability on most parts. This is not the USSR :)

But it would be good to have the bearings id numbers.

Re: Bearings Help needed.

All the bearings in the Evinrude/johnson are in inches, which makes the after market availability in Sweden rather limited.

I'd wager that i could take the bearings in my Evinrude LU down to a bearing supplier tomorrow and walk away with a new set in short order.....and we converted over to metric in 1966.

Sweden just happens to be the home of SKF.....the largest bearing manufacturer in the world.

But you are still 'suffering' from the British and as such need to 'double up'.:)
SKF might be a Swedish company, used to be great on ball and bearings, but not on needle cages. The European leader in that segment used to be INA (***) Apart from that, most of the SKF bearings are not made in Sweden anymore, got a huge factory here in Malaysia.Torrington that used to be the supplier to OMC, I belive has been taken over by Timken?
Things are not what it used to be, now Volvo is a Chinese car and Jaguar from India!!!!
The bigger Johnson 4-strokes are from Suzuki, and if you strip down some of the Yamaha 4-strokes you find Ford parts inside!

Re: Bearings Help needed.

My local SKF dealer had 2 out of 3 bearings, now shall i find the bearing with part nr: 376858.

Volvo is owned by the chinese, but is far from a chinese car. They are made and designed etc. in Sweden 100%. How many companies is not owned by foreign owners.

Like many other places we have no choice but to double up when both systems are still in use.....to do otherwise would make no sense.....American trucks, mining equipment and farm machinery etc has been imported here for decades.

Nice work, did you ask about ordering the final bearing in?

Yes, Jaguar is much the same in this regard but owned by India (sold to TATA by Ford)......the list of companies gets longer everyday.

The 3756858 was either a Torrington AG28493, or an AETNA 5204-P.
SKF may be able to crossmatch if it was not a custom run for OMC.

I've seen lots of complaints about $$$$....seldom about availability.

Re: Bearings Help needed.

Drawn cup needle bearings have always been a problem on the aftermarket side. Roller and ball bearings are a different story.
Most likely the local Timken dist. might be able to help:
