I got a 1975 bayliner for free not sure what model it is need help. It is 24.5 ft long. Has cuddy cabin. It has a remanufactured 302 ford with 280 outside. It also has a fish cleaning station on the back. I do believe it's a Saratoga, but not sure how to tell if it's a offshore or not.

second, that boat will take a lot of work to make seaworthy. generally free boats are the most expensive.

Yeah I know but the best way to learn about restoring boats is getting your hands dirty and doing the work your self. And I have the time.

What's a 280?

Anyway, i think his question was if this particular boat style was intended to be used offshore.

I will however agree the condition of this very old boat is a fact that needs consideration.

Volvo penta 280 outdrive. Not planing on taking it out in the ocean just to the delta, but I know there were several different models of the Saratoga that year just not sure which one I have. I am pulling motor too replacing transom and floor then rebuilding motor and outdrive.

why ?

you state it has a rebuilt motor
Yeah the tag said it has a Remanufactured motor. The person u got the boat from left it sit out in the rain. So the floor is rotted threw transom doe not look bad but going to pull everything out to verify. The motor does spend by hand but going to open it to check main bearings just because it has sit with out being covered.

Judging just by the numerous holes in that transom, you'll be replacing it.

Everything was attached I just recently tool Everything off still can see good wood so far even the light on the back you can see both 3/4" pieces of plywood no dryrot at all the boat was sitting on the tongue so any rain water all went to the front but will be able to tell. Etter when I pull engine
