Bayliner Trophy rebuild maybe

Hello all, this is my first post here and this is also the first repair I have attempted of this depth. My boat is a 1987 Bayliner Trophy 24ft hardtop. I have had several structural cracks appearing on the inner hull, tried patching them but they always broke loose. Last week the gas tank sprung a leak. woo hoo 80 gallons of gas loose in the hull! I decided to pop the cap on the boat to have a look at everything. Among the expected rotted wood of the floor of the inner hull and rotten cross braces on the main hull, I noticed that one of the stringers has cracked away from the main hull in the middle of the boat. I do not know how serious this is. I am hoping for some input from some experts. I have put in a new engine and outdrive, gauges, shifter, steering cable, and lots of other small stuff. I am on the fence about scrapping it, although I do not have enough money to get another boat for a couple of years...

That's a big job you are considering taking on there. The pictures don't really show any of the damage you wrote of so it's not easy to offer any opinion about it being worth it or not. Just from reading here, and doing my own restore, floors, transom and new interior, I know it takes a lot of work to get them back on the water. On a boat that size, I would be concerned about the boat sagging (bottom half) a bit when you separate the top and bottom. Mine is only 16 feet long and it was a fairly easy rebuild. With new power already taken care of on your boat, it may well be worth the time and effort.

Looks to me like you've already made up your mind and have a ton of work already invested. I say keep going on her, you would spend a bunch more on another boat and maybe be in the same position with it unless you got a new one.

First off get that heavy powerplant out of there, from what I've read with the cap off your hull could start to deform under the weight. Use some wide straps around the hull to keep her in shape while you do your work.

I will take a close up pic of the crack in question tonight. I was pretty worried about the hull deforming, but the upper and lower are holding their shape. I did support the engine from underneath to help out. I also noticed the the inner hull and outer hull have been rubbing together on the bottom in spots. Looks like it was working towards rubbing a hole in the hull. I do not think they are supposed to touch on the bottom are they?
