G'day,

I've owned a bayliner 212 for the past couple of years. I would like to get a propeller that will enable it to plane quicker.
With 1-2 people in the boat it gets out of the water quickly add a couple more and it struggles.
I think it has the original alloy prop. Once up the boat cruises perfectly.

1) Performance issue you are trying to correct.
slow to plane with more than 2 people, quicker to pull wake-boarder up.
2) Current prop manufacturer, model, aluminum or stainless as a minimum.
original, alloy
3) Current prop diameter and pitch (required).
no idea. The prop is anti-fouled and I can't see any numbers but I think it's original. Can anyone provide me this information? I've googled etc but can't find the exact specs
4) Wide open throttle RPM and speed with an average load (very helpful)
5000 rpm,
5) Engine/drive make, model, year, and HP
Mercruiser 5ltr MPI, 260hp 2005
6) Boat make model, year, length and weight
Bayliner 212 2005 approx 3200 pounds

Thanks in advance.... props cost so much I'm trying not to make the wrong decision.
BTW I'm from Lake Macquaire Australia.

Re: Bayliner 212 prop selection

Welcome,
Prop numbers may appear under the prop nut.Otherwise a prop shop can measure it for you.
Without prop size selection becomes a real gamble. "alloy" aluminum and stainless are both alloys.Stainless is magnetic and heavy, al. is not magnetic and light.
Also would be good to know your speed at wot rpm.
Going to a 4 blade prop in the same material 1" less pitch should help.overall performance
but may lose a little top speed.

Yeah tried that, spent most of yesterday with a wire brush.
Anyone got any tips for what get's antifoul off?

I'm sure it's aluminium.

Welcome,
Prop numbers may appear under the prop nut.

Thanks found it.... hiding under 3mm of anti-foul.
Okay so I think it says "J 14.25 x 21P"

I'm not worried about top end speed at all, I normally cruise with the wife and two young kids on board.

Again thanks for your help so far.

Re: Bayliner 212 prop selection

OK...I have a '99 Bayliner Capri, (2800 dry weight) which is close to the boat you have. We just spent the weekend tubing and skiing at the lake. We had seven to eight on board or being dragged in the tube all the time with a carburated 305 220 HP. Used a 4 blade Stainless 19P prop, and it had no trouble pulling out of the hole or cruising at a stable speed.
A lower pitch for sure will help you (19 pitch should be good), four blades will also help out of the hole, and also provide a more stable cruising speed while manouvering.
I hope this helps.....

Thanks any brand you would recommend?
Just to state the obvious I would be asking for a 14.25 x 19? Right hand?

Re: Bayliner 212 prop selection

Thought I should give an update, I decided on a 14x20 aluminum prop.
Took it for a long run yesterday, average cruising was 58 km's (sorry to all the mph people) sitting on 3500 rpm.
Top speed was 79 km's ( measured by GPS) at 4900 rpm. So far very happy but now need to see how it goes pulling a wake boarder out.

Re: Bayliner 212 prop selection

I never had a problem getting the boat out of the water with just me and the family on noard. IT was only when fully loaded with a few adults or wake boarding that caused
an issue.

I will update the thread once I've tested it fully loaded.
So far very happy, spent the whole day on Lake Macquarie NSW Australia today (my back door, literally) , 5-10 knot southerly breeze, about 25C. Perfect!
