I'm new to figuring out pricing for boats (I'm great with cars). For a Bayliner, it there a typical markup percentage for MSRP? How do you know if you are getting a decent price?

I see there is a $1500 rebate on the 185 right now, trying to figure out how much of a discount below that to expect.

Re: Bayliner 185 - Best Price?

Welcome to iBoats . . .

I cannot recall exactly, but there used to be some sort of "dealer invoice price" resource on the Internet. Maybe someone will chime in on that.

BUT, generally there is a pretty good margin for the dealers on boats .. . . like 25-35% of MSRP is their cost. Bayliners may have a thinner margin, being an economy boat, so the discounts may not be as steep.

Often, you will see "boat show" pricing at about 75% of MSRP on many boats . . . they are still making money.

You might google a bit and see if you can find some boat show pricing that is up on the web for comparison.

Re: Bayliner 185 - Best Price?

Thanks for the tip. I had been googling all over looking for pricing but never thought of adding the word "invoice". Found a site and it appears that the lower end Bayliners (like the 185 and 195) have an MSRP around 20% over invoice. As you go up the price range the margins increase.

I would guess that Sea Ray has larger margins since I'm seeing much larger discounts on them here locally.

I was not able to find great information on holdbacks/dealer incentives.
