Battery Cover material

There is not enough height in my boat where the battery sits in the battery box with the lid on. What kind of material can I use to safely cover the top of the battery to prevent any sparking or electrolyte spill over. The second gas tank is very close (within 4 inches) to the battery.

Also, looking for ways to secure down the battery so it doesn’t slide around. I do have angle iron to secure the base of the battery, but don’t know if I can drill into the fiberglass raised “platform” where it sits on.

What type of batteries do you have that don't fit in the box? Have you looked at getting battery terminal covers? Post pictures of your set up.

It seems strange that it has so little clearance.
How do you service the battery terminals?
