it rides a little rough but its fast and darn near indestructible,
we have some rough rivers and marsh her so i use my fiberglass for flats and salt

Re: Bass boat or Jon Boat?

I second the thought on checking the bolt holes where the motor mounts to the transom. I just fixed this problem on a fiberglass boat of mine. The lower bolts were not sealed, and the water getting into the bilge was a constant trickle. Not too much time passed, and I had a gallon or 2 in the bilge. I cut an access port to the bilge, mounted a bilge pump with a float, and then used that access port to find the leak (where I could actually SEE the water trickling down!) Some other thoughts to consider:
* If you sold the boat and bought another one, what makes you think that you would not have to sink some cash into the motor on the new boat? (I really think you would!)
* An aluminum jon boat is really easy to fix leaks on, but you have to pull the floor, fix it with water (up to the water line) find the leaks, and then fix with GLUVIT. Not hard, but a time consuming task.
* The fiberglass boat will be faster, and will likely serve you better over time (I've had both....I still have both...any body want to buy an aluminum boat, motor, and trailer?)
* You have the boat now....it will likely be cheaper to fix it than buy another boat and then fix that boat.....
Enjoy yourself! Fixing your own boat is frustrating, but is also greatly rewarding!!!:)
