Basic Manual Starting Question

Hello Everyone,
I took my motor off to replace some seals over the winter, now that they are replaced I would like to start the motor while it is off of the boat. I bought the boat at the end of the year so I have not ran the motor yet.

Since this motor is off the boat is there anything I need to do as far as starting or can I just hook up the gas, pull the rope and go? Does the battery need to be hooked up?

It is a 20HP 1978 Mercury.

Thanks.

Re: Basic Manual Starting Question

First have the engine in a tank or flush device attached, you need to either connect a battery or disconnect the 2 yellow wires from the rectifier so it is not damaged by a voltage spike.
