bad interuptor switch

can a bad interupter switch cause no spark when starting the engine? I get no spark at spark plug.

If you're talking MercCruiser IO, the answer would be,Yes. But unlikely. More of a shift cable adjustment. Post in Mercury I/O section.

If you removed the leads attached to the switch that would eliminate the switch as the problem.
Easy enough to check with a continuity tester to see if the switch works or not.

Deffinately a Mercruiser Alpha possibility
It is usually the adjustment of the cables and / or a bad lower shift cable.
