Took the boat out last weekend on a local lake the 1/4 tank of gas from last summer...ran fine in the beginning then on the way back in it was bogging while on plane then eventually stalled out...looked at the gas gauge and was almost empty.. i know i shouldve filled it up with fresh gas but the gas from the previous summers usually doesnt give me any problems but do you think it was bad gas doing this? Was it picking up sediment and crap from the gas tank?

Replace the fuel filter and open it to see if it picked up crud. And see what fresh gas does for you. Maybe you were just running out of gas?

Howdy,

I have never had problems with "last summer" fuel and I do the same thing (for more than 20 years) ............ Run it to 1/4 or less and fill it next summer.

Sounds like your gage might be a tad off though. I'll bet you're just "sucking-air" and out of fuel!

Cheers,

RIck

"Doesn't turn over" usually means the engine won't rotate operating the starter.

Is that what you meant?

pour a little bit of gas into the carb throat and see if it starts.

What are you working on?

Tried that as well and no luck.. My problem is now that the boat wont start.. I figured ill look at the points just to see their condition considering theyre two years old and from the pics i put up it looks like theyre burnt out, along with the distributor cap. Could that be the reason its not running?

Change the points...set the dwell with a dwell meter and then set the timing.

Change the cap.
Change the plugs.

Do you have power to the coil? You don't happen to have a man overboard switch that isn't connected do you?

And it also means that the Points are making contact.
If the points were fried, the coil would be cold.
Are they Opening? If the Dwell slipped to 100%,.... No Spark.

Interesting... I thought by the way the points looked that they were fried.. The points did have a spark But i noticed they didnt have a gap and were just closed together.. So maybe I just need to gap them again?

They need to be replaced. You can gap them to get the dwell close but you should use a dwell meter to set them exact.

Use your timing light to adjust the timing after you set your dwell. This has to be done after you set the points.
