Hi all
I have just purchased a 12ft Jon boat and want to attach the oarlocks. I am a little worried about the thickness of the gunwale and know that I will need to add supporting plate of metal or timber inside the boat. The oarlocks I purchased have a four screw bracket that attatches first and the oarlocks fit inside once attahed.
Can anyone let me know the best way to attach these oarlocks brackets.

Thanks

Mike

We really have no clue as to the exact parts you bought or what the problem is. Pics and brand names would be great, without them we would just be guessing.

Hello chefmike and welcome to Iboats...

Without pics its kinda hard to tell..

But normally I would through bolt 2 strips of 3/4"ish X 2' of Mohogany or Teak centered where your locks are going to be.

Then through bolt the oarlocks to them..

However without pics this is just a shot in the dark ( I dont know if there flat bolt pattern or angle bolt pattern.

Thank you YD.....................that was very helpful and I think it will work.
The boat in question is the Jon boat stocked by the company Academy.

Thanks again for your help and thanks for the welcome to the forum

Re: Attaching oarlocks

If you do not have access to Teak or Mahogany wood...... go to walmart and buy a thick plastic cutting board and cut that up. It will never rot , need paint or corrode ;) Be sure to use stainless steel bolts too!
