I doubt the prop had a Solid Bite on the Water unless the Tank went under the Trailer and allowed a free flowing path for the water to get to the prop. Tank testing in gear is very limited.
Have you got the Mercury Service Manual for it? If Not, then get it.

Give me a Carbed engine with a Mechanical Advance Distributor any day of the week, over a Computer Controlled Mumble Jumbled Mess with FI
that's what I say!
Simple points distributors and carbs have few points of failure, modern EFI/electronic engine management, has many!
My friends laugh and poke fun at my and my old boat, but they don't get this. I don't need mechanics, or even a scanner, for this one!

Take a look around the Linkages, are there any spots where any Wires that part of the Ignition are in contact with the Shift or Throttle Linkages? That also goes for the Control unit at the Helm.

running that motor with no load WOT even if only for a short spurt will play havoc with the sensors ,
? what sensors you ask A, all of them .
that is why it dies out when coming off throttle.
the ECU is having a hissy fit with all the mixed up signals so the motor stops @ idle.

i could go into detail but this is not the thread for that , so basically in short, i am saying don't use full throttle in a tank unless you have a set of test props to use on the thing.

Thanks for responding. In the matter of the test tank it is a converted loading dock with pumps to keep water flowing through the filter and to keep it from freezing. As for the initial problem it turned out to be a faulty IAC right out of the box. Replaced with OEM part and problem solved. Thanks again for input.
