Re: Assitance with G3 Transom repair (aluminum corrosion)

So, while I agree with the dealer/welder's solution that I have been provided, the total cost is extremely high due to the shop time. The welder will replace the transom with all aluminum reinforcement (solid at the motor mount). The cost for everything to paint is just over $5,000.00 for the deck and transom. I plan to put the boat up for sale to see if there is a welder that would want to take it on, if not I will pay for the transom only and do the remaining work myself using a local welder as needed. If anyone in the N. FL area may want a project (hull alone or with motor-2005 Yamaha F40) I will have an advertisement up soon. If no hits I will have them order the aluminum for the transom....Thanks for the ideas...it is a solid boat other than where the wood is so hopefully this will be a lifetime solution.

One last question for anyone that would know. Is there anything I should be concerned about with the solid aluminum replacement (solid at motor mount, reinforced throughout)? I was told he has done G3 transoms before, but I want to make sure there is no issue with the motor mounting in solid aluminum, or possible issues if re-powered? etc?

I would still be going back to the manufacture to see what they will do. I had a defective hull on a watercraft, that deemed it unsafe, and I wrote at least 4-5 letters to the manufacture. Dealer wouldn't do squat, I wont name them here, but just realize they don't want their product, (unsafe) knowingly out there where lives could be lost. I think if you are persistent, they will make good by you, because the reputation is important too. This is clearly a defective boat, and at what point does that stop being the most important issue? I don't think warranties are the issue, defective is. BTW I had a brand new hull shipped and the dealer swapped out everything for me, no cost, it was well past any warranty too. I hope this helps you out.

I had multiple hole in my transom (2005 Model 2072), brought to the dealer in April for a new transom. Picking it up tomorrow, fully covered by G3, no problems with them cover full cost.

Are you the original owner? They would replace it for the original owner but since I bought the boat, they don't have to replace it.
