I dunno Kagee. If there was ever a country that could have an itchy trigger finger I would figure it to be France (history of being beaten). On the other hand it could just be bold talk, trying to make it look like they really do have a pair.

On second consideration, I think it is bold talk. If they were attacked by 'terrorism', who they gonna use it on? Maybe the US for making the terrorists so mad? :D

Don’t know if this was posted on this forum before so I’ll toss it out just in case someone hasn’t seen it yet:

Go to Google.com and enter “french military victories” without the quotes, click on I’m feeling lucky. The results are humorous, but don’t stop there. Follow the link and read the history. Caution, don’t have a mouthful of beverage when you read it. You’ll take out your monitor/display screen.

Having a Pair and using a Pair have totally different consequences.

You could replace France with US and Chirac with Bush in that entire story and the world would blow a flippin' head gasket . . .

I think Bush should hold a press conference today and announce that "based on Pres. Chirac's comments, France is now our most closely aligned ally". That ought to sell a few papers!!! Oh, please, please, please, please.

Re: Are the French finally growing a pair?

It is a thinly veiled threat toward Iran (and potentially Pakistan)

There *are* real threats in this world, and unlike what we faced in Iraq, are capable of inflicting real damage.

You all seem to this we can be successful in this war on terror using a US against everyone else strategy. How's it going so far? We have Iran beligerent and attempting to get nukes, we have Pakistanis demonstrating against the US in the streets, already possessing nukes (We better hope Musharaf survives a long time) And who knows what is going on in North Korea.

I would think we should go out of our way to line up as much help as we can.

Chirac's out is "that it would be ready to use nuclear weapons against any state". Nowadays, states, at least in the diplomatic sense, don't conduct terrorism. Their clandestine organizations do it for them.

PW2, sometimes a direct frontal assault is appropriate. Sometimes it is wiser to attempt to influence situations in oblique or subtle ways.

Oh yeah---and as to the French "finally growing a pair," I say no---the French are a pair. I encourage you to use your imagination to fill in the blank.

Re: Are the French finally growing a pair?

Would france pull the trigger? Hope not! I would like to see them(France) send some troups in with some help from other countries so we could find the SOB, I mean OBL. I think things would settle down a bit if we could remove the head from the monster. Upon his death/capture, terror would probably escalate, But I think it would only be for a short period of time as a retaliation.

We really do have to make a greater effort to find him. I know we are monitoring radio waves, but I think we need more people on the ground searching.

Why so hard to believe? Cause they didn't want to party with us in Iraq? You saw how swiftly and effectively they dealth with the riots in Paris, didn't ya?

Re: Are the French finally growing a pair?

The really big problem looming is Iran, and the French know it. I believe that is what this is all about.
I also believe that Iran's leadership, should they gain nuclear capability, will definitely use it, without a second thought.
The next issue would be Pakistan if their leader, Musharaf, were to be assasinated. I understand a few attempts have already been made. Then extremists there would have nuclear potential.
And here we are, up another blind alley playing stupid bxggars with Iraq.
At some point, a large international Army is going to have to be formed and every militant in Afghanistan and in the Pakistani border region eliminated. Until you destroy the Queen Wasp and her nest, you will always have wasps.
Cheers
Phillip

Give me a break JT. They didn't want to 'party' with us in Iraq because they had a vested financial interest that was going to be obliterated. Don't give the Frogs so much credit for discernment.

They didn't have the same 'vested' financial interest in whacking the Ne’er-do-wells in their own country.

I agree with everything else you said, but wouldn't you want to have some kind of regional presence considering the other threats you identify?
