I just purchased our first used boat a 1995 Sailfish 176cc with a 1998 90hp Merc Force motor. When I was looking at the boat the mechanic fired it up and it sounded great and ran perfect. The elderly gentleman who owned the boat previously took very good care and rarely used the boat. Always kept it covered in the garage.
The Mechanic told me that this particular Force motor was not the Chrystler motor, but the better Merc motor. I read every now and then a person saying bad things about the Force motors, but then I read 10 or 20 more who are very happy with them. Since this is our first boat and I do my own maintenance I am not overly concerned, but I do want the motor to be reliable if I take care of it.
BTW- the motor came with a really nice SS prop, which was a plus.
