I have read a few places that it is fairly simple to do however I have never touched a carburetor before so I feel like I might as well be doing brain surgery. I follow directions extremely well but couldn't find a step by step tear down. Just wondering if such a thing exists. Also, just so I can be sure that I'm at the right place when I throttle my boat it bogs and then I pull back and rethrottle and it goes fine. My father, a mechanic for 30+ years says to start there but I just want to be sure. Thanks in advance, Chris.

I would start with checking the tune
Check timing belt condition and tension
Set dwell
Set base timing and check total advance

If you still have the problem, start looking at the carb

Fair enough. I will say that I already took the carb off so I will likely just clean it anyways. I will do the timing check when I install everything. The boat sat for several years prior to me acquiring it a month ago with 3/4 tank of gas. Surprisingly it actually ran on that gas and I have managed to burn through it all now. I notices when I move the throttle leet on the carb it isn't a solid stream at first, which leads me to believe that it something to do with that. Once I pump it again it's a solid stream. But I'll be definitely doing all the timing checks afterwards.

if you have fuel filters they could be cloged, and water could be in there to. my carbs had lots of water in them even after cleaning the filters, metholhydrate works good.
