I have been reading up on different batteries and I am curious if anyone uses an AGM Battery on a VP? I have a 5.7GiC-300-J and the AGMs seemed pretty interesting. I do hear there can be some alternator issues with them and some require a voltage regulator if the alternator charges the battery at a voltage that is to high for the AGM.

The charging systems on I/Os for the past 50 yrs are well enough regulated, and AGMs pose no issues, unless you discharge them too low, then the Fun begins, trying to get them to accept a Charge.
Using AGMs on Unregulated Charging Systems, like those found on many Outboards is a No-No, as these Batteries can't accept new Water to replace any boiled off by the High Voltages of the Unregulated System. In fact any Battery that can't have the Electrolyte Level checked and/or added is not a good choice with Unregulated

I`ve ran a AGM starting battery for years and have had no problems and no charging system changes were required.
