Re: Anyone towing with a Honda Pilot?

I like the honda pilot picture!!! The actual Honda suv is probably only a few feet bigger.... It would be nice to tow a 4000lb boat with that honda, but when you see it pass you have to brake fast and see the boat or trailer pass you in the next lane you'll think to yourself hay maybe I should have gotten the bigger suv. I always like going to the delta and seeing the Brand new direct drive ski boat being towed by the bmw or mercedes SUV (especialy when they strugle at the ramp). go for the bigger SUV...

pretty close

Just be extra careful that is all, if you feel that you are truly within the range of the vehicle then do it.

Does the dealer have a "demo" vehicle that they are willing to let you tow your boat with even if it is around the block to see how it handles?

If you are willing to buy the vehicle do all the paperwork with the dealer - except the final signature and then see if they are willing let you drive with the boat around the corner or something..

Maybe even offer to take the salesperson to the lake for a day

But the reality is that you dont leave yourself much room for emergency handling even with trailer brakes added on.

Just travel with extra distance in front of you and drive on high alert to avoid emergency situations.

Also make sure you follow the guidelines for extreme use for the vehicle, they usually post two sets of uses one for everyday driving and one for extreme.

You also have to consider the GVW - the total weight that the vehicle can handle including passengers fuel and cargo

Thanks for all the input. I didn't feel comfortable being so close to the tow rating of the Honda, so I ended up getting a new Explorer. With money I save over the Honda, I be able to gas it and my Four Winns up all summer long.
Happy Boating, -FloatingCPU
