Re: Anyone know about fuel primer solenoid's?

Im not sure. I will be going back over there thursday after work and i will try that. And no i dont. I primed it today and the bulb did stay hard but i couldnt hear any fuel go into the cylinders untill i moved the red switch at least 90 degrees. we even tried to pump the bulb after i started but it still died I know there isnt any water in the tank because i had it drained and cleaned 2 months ago and the tank is in great condition. As far as the spark, we pulled out the top two cyls spark plugs and saw a spark as we cranked it. I will check the others though. I will switch them if i have no spark to test them.

Messing with the primer got it starting again. It wouldn't start once for me on the lake. Now it starts great but boggs real bad. Still working through that. A real easy way to check ignition miss is to use a timing light. clamp it on each plug wire one at a time and watch for a steady light pulse...not erratic or missing. That should help figure out which cylinder is missing. Or if you have a regular small engine spark tester, you can test each cylinder spark one at a time. That will full field the coils. If each one has good spark, but misses while using timing light, maybe swap sparkplug with a cylinder that was working good. If the miss follows to that cylinder, plug is bad.

well i know the plugs are good because i just replaced them a week ago. But i will get a timing light and try that. Will a regular car timing light work for this? And as far as your bogging problem, does it run great out of the water, but when you put in in the water and put a load on it then it boggs at high rpm's? But runs good at low rpm's? If so i just had the same problem. That was the first of this hellashis experience with my boat. lol It was the VRO pump. I replaced it and that problem went away only to free up this problem a week later. lol

New plugs can be bad right out of the box for sure. Yeah, I use a regular clamp style timing light. I wondered too about my VRO style fuel pump which looks brand new, so I disassembled it completely. It's like new inside too, so I reassembled it. Havn't tried running it yet. (just put it back on tonight). It was running great on the trailer. When it's running good, it runs great! Goes up on plane fast and smooth. Runs about 50 MPH. But when it's bogging it won't get 12 mph. The more throttle, the less it runs. I just keep playing with the throttle untill I feel it will gain RPM's then it's like nothing happened. I'm gonna decarbon it and change plugs to see what happens then. All other fuel lines and filter are new. I don't have close enough water to work on it every night.

ok cool. Ill get a timing light and try it after i get it running. lol When you took your VRO apart did you see any tears in the diaphram? If it doesnt and its good ill be suporised because mine did the same thing. At lower speeds it was fine but i gave it throttle and it got speed but would bog untill i back off the throttle. And it was the VRO. Mine looked good too but it was still the problem. Also try cleaning out the carbs. The rebuild kits are only 20 a piece. the work is the hard part. I took a small paper clip and cleaned out the jets too after soaking them. After i replaced my VRO and it worked i was looking over my old one to see if i can figure out what was broke on it and i found a small hair line crack in the outer casing where the screws are. Do you ever see any fuel around the pump or on the fuel lines? And by all means, i dont know much about boat motors but this is all ive gone trhough for months. lol

Well, I had every thought it was the pump, that's why I took it apart. But when I Looked at it, everything looks like new. Diaphrams are awesome. I need to find the time to get it on the water again with my tools so I can play with it. Good luck with yours!

Re: Anyone know about fuel primer solenoid's?

Well, after todays efforts i would like to rule out it as being a fuel problem. I took apart the primer solenoid and all looked good inside. The diaphram was good as well. I also took a power wire to it and it did click like the one guy on here said. So i might rule out that being bad. I also took every fuel line and filter off, made sure they were all good and clean, made sure the VRO pump looked good and held pressure and re assembled it all and it still did it. So im gona guess its an electrical issue. So thursday im gona go get a small engine ignition tester and test all the plugs to see it i got spark and go from there unless you have any other sugestions. I also noticed a black oil substans leaking from the bottom area of the motor that conects onto the lower unit. I cleaned it off yesterday and it apeared again today after the small 3 second runs it did a few times. So i think i blew a seal and the lower unit oil or lubricant is flowing out from when i hooked it up to the hose the other day. It cant be anything lest bc i premix. And thoughts on that as well?
