Hi guys i have a johnson 30,
need to know the above please? Is it a 30 hp? what year is it?

Also is this a long shaft or short shaft?

First boat, new to all this, please be gentle. lol

Just to be sure, lets get the model number. Look for a tag on the port stern bracket (left bracket that supports the motor to the transom). The tag is about 1x2, and will contain the model number. If that has been removed, check the top of the powerhead for the welch plug. It is about the size of a quarter, and should contain the model number.

i cant seem to find any numbers anywhere,
there definatly isnt any on the leg bit,
any pics of where it should be on the insde on the engine?

is it a 30hp one?

any guesses?

i need to find this info out so i can get a manual on the engine, i could do with cleaning the carb out, seems to be running a bit iffy on tickover and mid range, high revs are fine.

The welch plug is normally on the top rear of the powerhead. Will look something like this, a pic supplied by TD

look underneath the front, between the motor and where the steering cable goes thru, may be grease on it. or on the block for a disc like this.

30 hp Short shaft
My guess it's a 1992

all i can tell you for sure, is that it is 1984 or newer, they did not make a 30hp in 1983, and 1984 on all have electric primer system.

If the decal on the cover is original, it's probably 1990.

Looks like it's missing the exaust cover and guts. Tilt the motor up and look on the bracket for a tag.

Nah thats when it was apart, i was just posting a pic to see if it was easier to identify
