Ahh, that is good to know. Like I said, this is my first boat. It is an old aluminum v-hull fishing boat and I am stoked to have it :)

So the buoys are to warn you about rocks then? I was unsure of what they meant when looking at them from the shore. Anything else I should know as a rookie?

They warn of rocks, fish habitats,no wake zones, and boats not allowed .look at the symbols on them and they tell you whats up.
Also if you go in the day time watch for ***** holes and ski boats I almost had a capsize because of some drunken skiers at night it is awesome but the day time be careful.

Yeah, I just got back from my first trip on the water toaday. I could see the buoys pretty good from the boat. What is with the fish habitat ones? Are you suppose to stay away from them? We avoided them just in case.

Things went pretty smooth for us but I could see how things could get crazy pretty quick at the lake. Seems like there are a fair bit of folks that don't know what they are doing and (most importantly) don't care how it affects others.

Man, there was another guy up there that had a small fishing boat with an outboard. It was his first time on a lake with a boat too.

He lost his motor! Apparently it fell off the boat while he was manuvering away from a log or something. Someone towed him back in. Wow!

Sure is nice to see the lake from the water though. It was a beautiful day :)

Oh, we didn't catch anything but we had a nice time.

Next time,go across from the boat ramp.then to the left until you hit the river canyon.Stay to the right on the way up the canyon.Right where the river turns hard to the left there is an island with a couple of bouys to the right of the point. It is straight into a cove.Anchor up there in the middle of the cove, you will catch every kind of fish that the lake has to offer.Use a bluegill alive at night and hold on.Good luck, see you up there some time I go in the summer night fishing, too many idiots in the day time.

Hey Azcamperguy,I went up to Canyon on Sunday morning. We caught 6 smallmouths and a 3 1/2 lb largemouth.Lots of yellow bass.Go up the canyon and when the river turns to the left, follow it the whole way across, you will see a cove going back, fish the two points on both sides of that cove.We were using crawdad colored shad raps, have fun,the small mouths were not very big,but they fight harder then anything else, have fun.

Re: Any AZ fisherman here?

Congrats on a fun day of fishing. Was it busy on Sunday?

I went up there Sat night with my daughter. We were there from about 11pm - 3am. It was only the second time on the lake so we were a bit nervous in my little boat LOL. If you look at this map here http://www.canyonlakemarina.com/location.htm are you talking about Mushroom point or Beer Can point?

Also, do you have any tips for fishing at night? My boat came with a couple of lights so we threw them in the water. Saw some Bluegill about but even they weren't hitting our worms. I also had some catfish bait hanging out there on the bottom. When you throw the light in the water are you suppose to drop your line near them or fish away from the boat more? I've never fished at night before and never with a light either. I appreciate your knowledge and advice Starcraftguy.
Thanks, Chris

Well at Canyon I never had too much luck with bringing in shad, that is pretty much what the lights are for.We just put the old style crappi light, the ones that had a foam ring around a headlight so that we could see our lines. They bring in some bugs, you should go earlier.I say be there before dark, and go into all the little coves on the way and stop in them with a slip bobber and catch small bluegills. It still is not warm enough for that.Wait un til May.Then just fish under your light so that you can watch your line.Get a bucket of minnows, with an areater, and throw the bluegills in that.I would say the best time to fish is right at dark, then for a couple hours after.I am usually out of there by 1:00 am when it is warm.Good luck, you will be seeing me up there soon.I will PM you when I am going again.Go to San Carlos,if you like to eat crappies. You will catch as many as you want to right now,Your daughter will have a blast.
