antifreeze in #1 cylinder

I have antifreeze on #1 plug none of the others. Am I right to think the head gasket is gone. The engine started overheating and the valve started chatering. I did not run it long but as soon as I shut it down and lifted the hood all the antifreeze was in the overflow tank.

I let it cool down lifted the tank to refill the engine and cranked it over. All I can see is bubling in the heat exchanger and it won't start. It tries but won't go.

This is a '89 omc cobra 2.3 with overhead cam. (Ford)

Any help appreciated. This was not a good weekend. I guess thats why we have that outboard dangling of the stern :)

Since nobody else replied, I guess I'll jump in. BTW- Welcome!

I'm 99% positive the head gasket is blown. The head should be removed, checked, tested, and resurfaced.

Thanks for the reply. Being new at this what would you recommend. It's an
'89 is it worth doing this and have an old bottom end or just put in a rebuilt motor?

I've never had a rebuilt motor and from what I gather so far marine rebuilts only have 3 months waranty.
