The shifter on this motor does not lock into reverse. The guy who sold me the motor told me that this was a safety feature, but it says nothing about it in the online owner's manual. Is this true? Thanks.
If you have to hold the shifter in reverse, (if it jumps out of gear) something is amiss. Possibly shift rod length adjustment. The shifter does have detents for both forward and reverse gears.
The "guy" is either lying or is ignorant to the facts. PVANV is correct. Make him fix/pay to fix the motor ( or take it back). It's likely and adjustment but who knows. It's certainly not right.
