Im dong a rebuild on a Rochester quadrajet 4 bbl carb on a 1990 4.3 ltr.

The reason I decided to do the rebuild was because the last time we tried to run
the boat, It idled very rich to the point where your eyes started to burn and as soon as
I went to open the throttle a bit, it stalled and flooded... a lot! So much so that
we had the fire extinguisher on stand by because it was leaking over the bowl.

Tapped the sides of the carb in hopes it was just a stuck float or needle
and let it dry out. Went to start it but it wouldn't and just flooded again so
we called it quits and paddled back to shore.

I have bought a rebuild kit and new float but after reading about this carb,
some other posts suggest putting jb weld on the well plugs.
Other say the leaky well plugs were corrected in the 80's so I dont know if its worth it
or if I still need to.

Also ... any pointers on the rebuild would be great. This is my first carb rebuild ever. lol

I cant do the leak test with soap on the well plugs as I dont have access to compressed air.

Your thoughts?

Seriously doubt that is the problem.

I would be checking for fuel bowl / float level / needle in seat issues.

If fuel was running out of the vent, the needle is stuck or the float is sunk. Q jet well plugs and the float bowl leaks will drain the gas into the intake but that only effects a cold start

If the carb is out and apart anyways ... should I just epoxy them?

No epoxy....at all!!!

Are you running an electric or mechanical pump?

As far as a rebuild, if you are methodical, you'll have no problem. Just take your time, lay everything out and give yourself enough time to complete the job. Make sure everything is thoroughly cleaned and don't overtighten when assembling but make sure all us snug. You'll have to fully tune the carb when done which will take longer than the rebuild. Do some research on tuning steps or bring a friend who knows if that's not you
