Re: Another boating accident

Idle speed max anywhere near docks, swimmers, other boats. How hard is that to understand? We've already had more boating deaths in South Carolina this year than all of 2009. Power, gasoline, alcohol makes a deadly combination.

A little more information on this. I was making reservations for a spot at the marina and apoke with the people at Diamond Lake. It wasn't an issue of excessive speed. The guy accidentally started the boat in gear and it shot up onto the dock when it started.

The rest of the news report is rather conflicting. Doesn't really matter except that there was less drama than indicated. It doesn't appear that the womans injuries were life threatening.

Again - this is a good reminder to think before you act.

Why do people insist on posting boat accidents? Accident's happen .....look at car accidents...... how about children who get hurt while at play.

This is about boating and everyone likes to relay about local accidents and some that are not even remotely local.

Dockside Chat has become nothing but depressing bad news..... get over it. I do not care about other people being stupid ......... I certainly do not post about bad news that I read.

Not a personal attack on you Pirate but it has been a poor trend lately in Dockside.

The world has enough gloom as it is. It's nice to come in here to escape it.

Actually, if there are lessons to be learned or information to be exchanged (like what or what not to do), some of these can be valuable to us new boaters. Even if it is something we should have known...or is just reinforcement.

I can say all the boat fires I have read about here have changed my behavior to always engage my blower.....something I only did the first start up of the day before.

Some of us might need to hear things a time or two.

OK, fine. One last time...Turn your blower on at least five minutes before you turn the key. :D:D:D

And never spit into the wind:p
