There are different anchors for different fishing areas. What works in sand may not work in weeds. All of these are prone to getting stuck in reefs. Specialty anchors made from heavy pipe and re-bar work on reefs. So, figure out what kind of bottom you need to anchor in.

On the smaller boats, the Danforth anchors are popular, They lay flat when stowed away. The Delta and CQR are great anchors, but don't stow well unless mounted on an anchor pulpit.

IF you fish in shallow, weed infested areas, that have tidal movement, a heavier anchor will be needed to settle down through the weeds to the ground.

Now, if you're a bass fisherman, there are electric anchor retrieval systems. The anchor is a simple weight with flukes. The electric motor is nice for retrieval. The weight cuts through the weeds.

More important is having enough chain and anchor rode to get a 7 to 1 angle. For shallow water, I use a 100'er. For emergencies, I keep a 300'er stowed away.

Re: andiamo

what i meant was on the 1902 and 1952 the anchor locker opens forward and it is difficult to get the anchor in and out of the water and no place to tie the rope except the bow rail,,,,got to be a better way?

It's obvious, I haven't seen the boat. Many boats have an eye bolt in the bottom of the locker. You might consider the "Lifting ring" at this site: http://www.marinepartdepot.com/?gclid=CKPgwM6Pt68CFSsHRQodcTyVkw

Adding a cleat requires that you get inside the gunnel to put a backing plate or large fender washers. On some areas you would have to put in an inspection hatch to gain access. http://www.ebay.com/itm/4-inch-Screw-Out-Deck-Plate-Inspection-Hatch-BLACK-/230738750195?pt=Boat_Parts_Accessories_Gear&hash=item35b919eaf3&vxp=mtr#ht_500wt_665
