It has come to my attention that I have been out of line recently and have offended and/or upset Members here in the Forum.

I would like to openly and sincerely apologize to any and all members that have been directly or indirectly affected by my rude and/or unnatural comments on the boards.

It is not my intention to belittle other members in their process(es),questions and/or answers.

It is also not my intention to have other members feel not welcome on the Forums.

Some of you have become Friends .. I hope to retain and build on those in a positive way.

Re: An open apology

I say we all have good days and bad days but in the end we are adults and friends with the best of intentions. I believe what you do here (along with many others) is admirable. I have been on several other forums (non-boating) in that my interests and curiosities travel far and wide. The one thing that prevails are personalities sometime crashing and fire erupting. It's human nature and few (are man enough) apologize. We are all human and we are all the same with hearts and minds and feelings. It makes us what we are. I am glad you are here and appreciate the spirit.

Re: An open apology

Unlike "real life", comments made in the heat of the moment on a forum are there to stay, review, ponder and share with others, so what would be a small blip in person becomes a much larger deal than it is. Hopefully everyone who hasn't learns to get a thicker skin, which you absolutely have to have on the Internet.

I have zero clue what happened/etc., but your apology is a step in the right direction, and anyone who should have gotten over it seconds after it happened and didn't, hopefully is over it now :)

I'm not sure what you are talking about, Dave. But a couple things I do know. 1..Your knowledge has helped many people here. 2....Takes a good, honest man to make a public apology.

On a lighter note....My lady says I need to apologize more often.

Re: An open apology

The lack of voice inflection in typed text, cultural/regional differences, and a reader perceiving anger in a matter of fact statement are aggravating factors as well. A statement of fact from an expert can seem like a virtual slap in the face to a newbie who didn't know what is actually very basic info to a pro. An inexperienced person asking "Hey, I'm thinking about doing xxxxx" and a pro immediately listing 10 reasons why it won't work doesn't seem to sit very well when the pro is in fact just trying to save the newb time and aggravation. This also occurs in a reverse fashion when a newb questions a pro's opinion or answer rather than looking for clarification. Often the pro perceives this as a question of their integrity when the newbie didn't know otherwise.

I think guys like you, YD, are what makes this place so great. It's like having multiple experts at your side to weight in on your ideas, aspirations, and problems!

I have read many of your posts, and they are both informative and precise in nature...along those lines, sometimes people just don't understand the concept of putting things out straight and true...I used to get that from my employees because I am notorious for not beating around the bush or flowering things to save peoples feelings. I think your a well versed professional whose intentions are sometimes misunderstood. Kudos on the apology YD, voicing your concerns will go a long way to those who might have been offended, I hope.

Re: An open apology

I enjoy learning from brash individuals. That's how I grew up. I learned a lot from the embarassment of getting called out too. I also didn't forget that knowledge that was passed down to me because the crotchety old farts made it interesting and had some funny insults and sayings.(I'm not saying YD is a crotchety old fart) Some people need to understand that constructive criticism isn't an insult, and they will be very thankful if they listen in the long run.

x2 all the stuff idonthaveaname said. and JDA.

You haven't bothered me, but it's pretty hard to insult a construction worker with words or hand gestures to the point of hurting his feelings.

Re: An open apology

i have seen many comments from new people on the forum that get upset when you reply, mainly the reason being that you are proving insight to thier problem but it starts of with "Ayuh" I in fact like that you do that as it is unique and every time i see Ayuh, im like its YD!

Uhh...
Are you sure you're not thinking of Bond-o???

BTW Kudos to you YD. Never thought that anything you have posted was offensive. Just strait to the point in a Dutch uncle sort of way.

Re: An open apology

Thanks for taking the time to let everyone know that your intentions are honorable, but I had already realized that. I have learned a lot from your posts and am glad you are here to do so. Like was stated earlier, typed posts do not reflect feelings or intentions and are easily misinterpreted. You have your own style of writing which I have seen misinterpreted. Once misinterpreted, it is easy for things to escalate. When I post, I always try to think how I might be misinterpreted as well as the information I am providing. Keep the great info coming.

Re: An open apology

Well you have never offended me UNTIL NOW.

If there's one thing I can't stand, it's a sincere apology!

LOL, J/K.... I haven't been on much lately... If you DID get out of line, it must have been a recent thing... all I've ever noticed was an earnest attempt to help steer folks down the right path..... In that regard, carry on! ;)

Re: An open apology

I'll admit, when I first joined and started asking questions, I thought you (YD) were quite harsh and on the rude side, but the more I got to know the folks here at iBoats and learned their posting style, the more I realized that while it may have been a harsh truth it was not rude and was sincere professional advise. I always respect your advice and I know you have the experience and knowledge to back it up.

That said, when the uneducated or ignorant come on here asking for advice, but refuse to listen to the advice given (i.e. they think they're ideas are great and don't know any better to realize that it's not - hard-headed folks, if you will) it sometimes takes a very blunt statement for it to sink in. You can't always sugar-coat or beat around the bush and I, personally, appreciate folks that aren't afraid to give it to you straight, no matter how much it might hurt the ego.

Props to ya for the apology YD and I look forward to reading much more of your insight!

Re: An open apology

I personally like the straight forward, no beating around the bushes comments but also appreciate a person who stands up and takes responsibility for their actions. Wish the rest of America would do that. We'd be much better off! Nice job YD.
