Every since I had my little boy, and then little girl, I am soooooooooooo sensetive to any harm to a child.

I think it should be same punishment as the crime. He shot her, he should be shot in the same places she was, then locked up for life. There is no excuse for hurting a child like that. Dieing is too easy on him. Of course, I also like Saudi Arabia's plan. Steal once, they cut off a hand. Steal twice, they cut off the head. No 3 time offenders. If the crime is bad, skip the hand...
